Yarn made from scraps
Além dos fios de lã merino fiados à mão que faço por encomenda, também adoro fiar alguns fios que, por serem feitos com restos, ficam ainda mais únicos e exclusivos.
Se alguma participou num workshop meu de tapeçaria, sabe que tenho sempre um cesto na mesa para recolher todas as sobras de fios que inevitavelmente ficam para trás. Esta é a razão.
In addition to the handspun merino wool yarn I make to order, I also love spinning some yarn that, being made with scraps, is even more unique and exclusive.
If you’ve ever done a tapestry weaving workshop with me, you know that there’s always a basket on the table to colect all the scraps and leftover yarn that are inevitably left behind. This is why.
Pego nos restos, às vezes separo-os por cor; outras vezes agrupo todos os que tenho e começo a cardá-los usando as cardas manuais. Depois misturo-os com lã merino virgem na cardadeira de tambor.
Esta é uma boa solução para usar o desperdício têxtil que produzo com as minhas tapeçarias.
E o resultado não podia ser melhor... Às vezes mais finos, às vezes mais grossos, estes fios têm sempre mais carácter do que os normais. Com eles consigo ser verdadeiramente criativa e explorar diferentes texturas.
I take the scraps, sometimes sort them by colour; other times group all the pieces I have and start carding them all together using the hand carders. Then I blend them with virgin merino wool with the drum carder.
This is a good solution to get rid of the textile waste I produce with my tapestries.
And the result couldn’t be better... Sometimes thinner, sometimes thicker, these yarns always have more character than the normal ones. With them I get to be truly creative and explore different textures.
